Local Culture

Hi there!
Welcome to my first blog. Let me introduce my self, my name is Elly Nur Azizah, usually my friends call me Ellyn. I am a student from Makassar Tourism Polytechnic majoring in Tour&Travel Business Study Program. I have been doing tours for two days in Maros-Pangkep. On this occasion i would like to share my experience during the tour with the readers.

On Thursday at 07:00 a.m we gather on campus, pray and listen to instructions given by lecturers and senior so that the trip can run smoothly.
At 08:05 a.m we departed from campus to the district of Bontoa, Maros. When we arrived in Maros we visited one of the very famous tourist attractions called "Rammang-Rammang".
The word Rammang-Rammang comes from the Makassar language, which is a collection of "clouds" or "fog". Seen from the condition of the Rammang-Rammang which is always foggy every morning, even in any season.

Our main goal is the village of Berua. To get to our village, we took a fan boat down the river for about 30 minutes. I saw many palm trees and mangroves along the river and there were monkeys by the river.

The first impression i got in village of Berua was very beautiful with a rural feel. In the village itself there are only a few that are far apart. According to local residents, the village of Berua is only inhabited by one family descendant.

The first one i visited was the diamond cave, takes time and energy to get to the diamond cave. Blazing sun and steep rocks don't make our spirits recede. According to history, the diamond cave was found by Mr. Muslimin in a dream 4 years ago. In the cave of diamonds there is a wall of raw crystal diamonds. And has been researched 2 times and stated that this is a real diamond. There is also a half-body human statue and cave wall shaped like a squid. To enter the diamond cave we need to pay as much as 5 thousand rupiah.

After from the diamond cave we rested for lunch.
After enjoying lunch, we continue the journey to the kingkong cave. Why say kingkong cave? Because one of the walls look like Kingkong face. In the kingkong cave there is also a former handprint which is believed to be an ancient human palm.
After being satisfied in the Kingkong cave, we continued the journey to the Ammarung Hill. Ammarung Hill trip also requires time and energy because we have to walk under the hot sun and up the stairs. But when we arrived at Ammarung Hill we was fascinated because we could see the atmosphere of the village starting from the height.

On friday october, 25,2019 we gathered at the campus at 06:30 a.m for a briefing and at 07:00 a.m we left the campus and headed for pangkep regency. Our first goal is blacksmith, as for the stages of making blacksmith is:
1. The iron is cut and then burned
2. Burning of iron, plate and steel
3. Then beaten using a hammer or iron, plate and steel put together
4. Then formed
5. After formed then in Gurinda
6. Sharpened until sharp
Mr. Imran has started a blacksmith business from generation to generation. The price for 1 machete if we buy it directly at a place for 75 thousand rupiah. But if it is already on the market the price will rise to 100 thousand rupiah.
After from the blacksmith we went to the traditional market to find something unique in Pangkep. This market has been around for a long time. Open from 06:00 a.m to evening. This market is like a traditional market in general.

Our last trip in BATARI "Milkfish Without Thorns". The owner of BATARI is Mrs. Ratna Mentari. Since 2017 has opened the development of BATARI. BATARI itself has become a destination for tourists to get souvenirs typical of Pangkep. Has 13 main products and products able to hold for 6 months in a controlled temperature. The price of thornless milkfish is around 12-15 thousand rupiah depending on size. In a day,  Mrs. Ratna and her employees can process 200 a day, and if there is an event, they can process until 500 a day.

Thank you for reading my blog, i hope that by sharing my experiences i can increase the knowledge of readers and become a reference for visiting some of the places that i tell. I suggest when visiting Rammang-Rammang better to bring water so as not to dehydrate and wear strong shoes because of the very sharp terrain.
See you on the next blog:)
